An article appearing on Tucson.com last week highlighted the implementation of dental benefits for adults in the state. These implementations have been a result of recent legislation involving disabled Arizonans over the age of 21 whose health care is covered by the Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS). Lack of dental coverage for residents enrolled in Arizona’s Medicaid program, Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS, or “Access”), is also highlighted. Current efforts are being made to expand this coverage, specifically for pregnant women on the plan. ASDOH D3 student Erik Klintmalm recently testified on behalf of a House bill to expand this coverage before its progress was halted in the House Appropriations Committee.

AzDA Executive Director Kevin Earle reacted to the article saying, “It is so gratifying to see how our work to restore dental coverage for our most vulnerable fellow citizens has been implemented.”
